2025: A’Ibom Police Command Rescues 74 From Traffickers, Secures 33 Convictions

UYO – AKWA IBOM State Police Command on Monday disclosed that it secured 33 convictions from 563 suspects arrested for various crimes within the year.
The command says it also rescued 74 victims of human trafficking and 10 kidnapped persons, all of whom have since been reunited with their families.
Commissioner of Police, CP Baba Muhammad Azare made the disclosure during a press briefing at the Police Headquarters, Ikot Akpanabia, Uyo, where he reviewed the Command’s activities for the year.
Azare who said the security situation in Akwa Ibom remained “generally peaceful, calm and stable” in 2025, attributes the outcome of successes recorded to intelligence-led policing, proactive patrols, strategic deployment of personnel, community cooperation and effective inter-agency collaboration.
According to him, the Command also recorded significant operational successes, including the recovery of 179 assorted arms, 323 rounds of different ammunition and 100 live cartridges, in addition to the rescue of kidnapping victims.
In his words “The Command recorded the following major achievements in 2025, among others: the rescue of 10 kidnapped victims, recovery of 179 assorted arms, 323 different types of ammunition, and 100 pieces of live cartridges.”
He assured residents that security arrangements had been strengthened for the festive period and beyond, with intensified patrols, stop-and-search operations and strategic deployments across all local government areas of the state.
Looking ahead, CP Azare said the Command would further strengthen intelligence-driven policing and crime prevention strategies in 2026, with renewed focus on combating violent crimes, cultism, armed robbery and kidnapping.
He added that the police would deepen community policing efforts to build public trust, while also becoming more proactive in tackling cybercrime and the spread of fake news through collaboration with sister security agencies.
The Commissioner expressed appreciation to the Inspector-General of Police for what he described as “purposeful leadership and unwavering support,” and also thanked the Akwa Ibom State Government for its continued assistance to the Command.
