2027: Atiku, Makinde Hold Closed-Door Meeting With IBB

MINNA – THE Former Vice President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and the Governor of Oyo state, Seyi Makinde on Tuesday visited former Military Head of State, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida (IBB), over issues that may not be unconnected with state of the nation.
Babangida who received his guests at his hilltop residence in Minna held separate discussions which lasted for close to two hours with former Vice President and Governor Makinde.
Speaking to journalists on current political developments in Nigeria, former Vice President Atiku described the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu led All Progressives Congress (APC) as not just a party of forgers and riggers but associated with everything evil.
On the tax reforms and gazetted tax reforms by the Tinubu led administration, Atiku Abubakar said, “what do you expect? APC generally is a party of forgers and riggers”.
“They forged everything, they forged certificates, they forged age limits, they forged everything. So, that is the hallmark of the APC”, the former Vice President said.
He told journalists that the decision of the Senate after its emergency plenary on the elections reforms turned out to be a mixture of both electronic and manual transmission which according to him is going to cause more confusion.
He further pointed out that,“First and foremost, what they did is actually below the expectations of Nigerians, because Nigerians were expecting real time transmission of results of elections at the various levels”.
“What we got is not far from more confusion, a mixture of electronics and manual transmission, which is going to cause more confusion and chaos than if we had a single tier electronic transmission of the elections results.”
While calling on all registered political parties to come together and take a stand on the unfolding political scenarios, Atiku assured, “We must come together to pursue this issue”.
“We shouldn’t allow the issue of transmission of results to rest where they wanted it to rest today. Absolutely, not, I don’t support that.”
The former sixth time Presidential candidate, in response to whether he would run for the 2027 Presidential election or not said, “the question of contesting the 2027 election does not even arise. I am a member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and we are busy trying to make sure that our structures are firmly rooted at the wards, local government areas, states and national levels”.
“We are busy mobilising and our people are registering at the same time”, the former Vice President said, adding that the ADC does not have issues with zoning of positions.
“The ADC is the only party platform that has zoning in its constitution is the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
Meanwhile, Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo state who also had closed door meeting with IBB declined to speak with journalists as he emerged from the former President’s home.
