Oyo Assembly Restores Suspended Oyo East Local Government Chairman, Oluokun

IBADAN – The Oyo State House of Assembly has reinstated Honorable Olusola Oluokun, the suspended Chairman of Oyo East Local Government.
This decision was made during a plenary session held on Thursday, November 7.
Hon. Oluokun’s suspension stemmed from a social media video that depicted him in an inappropriate manner, making comments considered unsuitable for someone in his position.

Following an investigation by the Assembly’s Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Hon. Oluokun was cleared of the charges against him.
Honorable Akintunde Olajide, representing the Lagelu State Constituency and chairing the House Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, presented the committee’s findings to the assembly on Thursday.
According to the report, the suspended chairman did not intentionally share the video that led to his suspension and showed genuine remorse for the incident.
As a result, the committee recommended his immediate reinstatement.Several lawmakers, including Deputy Speaker Muhammed Fadeyi, Gbenga Oyekola, and Hon. Olorunpoto Rahman, praised the committee for conducting a swift and thorough investigation.
They noted that the suspension served as a cautionary reminder to others regarding their conduct in public office.
After discussing and adopting the committee’s report, the House reached a unanimous decision to reinstate Hon. Oluokun.
The Speaker, Rt. Honorable Adebo Ogundoyin, directed that the acting vice chairman return to his previous role, and announced the immediate reinstatement of Hon. Oluokun.
He also urged public office holders to exercise caution in their conduct, particularly in public settings.
