IBADAN – Controversial journalist and activist Dr. Kemi Olunloyo has publicly declared that she will not mourn the passing of her father, former Oyo State Governor, Victor Omololu Olunloyo, based on years of personal estrangement and unresolved family trauma.
Kemi’s decision is rooted in a long-standing breakdown in their relationship, one she previously described as toxic and destructive. As far back as 2015, Kemi openly accused her father of engaging in ritual practices that, in her words, “destroyed his family.” In a report by Pulse Nigeria, she alleged that these spiritual manipulations had lasting, damaging effects on their household, and was one of the key reasons she severed ties with him.
In 2016, Victor Olunloyo responded to her allegations in a statement covered by Information Nigeria, describing Kemi’s claims as “utterly irresponsible” and “libelious.” He suggested that her actions were symptomatic of a mental health struggle and publicly apologized to those affected by her controversial statements (Informationng.com, July 2016).
