Rivers: Container Truck Veers Off Aleto Bridge, Plunges Into River

PORT HARCOURT – A twelve feet container truck has once again veered off the Aleto bridge along the Eleme axis of the East West Road, in Eleme Local Government Area of Rivers State, plunging into the Eleme river.
The latest crash is similar to another which happened five months ago involving a Dutch expatriate, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Rivers State Cassava Project Limited, Mr. Gibson Reuben, who died at the crash scene.
The vehicle conveying Dutch expatiate, late Mr Reuben, skidded off the bridge and plunged into the river in a bid to escape the suspected kidnappers pursuing them.
The latest crash at the bridge which is undergoing construction, occurred at about 3pm on Friday, although no life was lost, as the truck driver came out unhurt, according to eyewitnesses.
A community source told newsmen that the exact number of occupants in the truck could not be ascertained as at press time but efforts were ongoing to recover the content in the truck.
The affected truck it was gathered was heading to Port Harcourt from Onne Ports before it lost control and fell into the river.
The Rivers State Police Command is yet to comment on the incident as at the time of filling this report.
