Tinubu Postpones International Engagements•••Condoles Victims, Army General, Kebbi Student Abduction, Kwara Church Attack

ABUJA – PRESIDENT Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Wednesday extended his heartfelt sympathies to victims of recent violent incidents across Nigeria, including the assassination of a senior Army General, the abduction of students in Kebbi State, and an attack on a church in Kwara State.
President Tinubu has also postponed his international commitments, including the G20 summit in South Africa, to focus on Nigeria’s security situation.
The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, conveyed the President’s condolence message
at a press briefing organised in Abuja as part of Federal Government’s response to ongoing security challenges.
The Minister noted that these incidents, underscore the grave security threat facing the nation, stressing that the Federal Government has intensified efforts to combat terrorism and insecurity amid recent violent attacks across the country.
The President has ordered the deployment of additional military and police personnel to vulnerable areas such as Eruku and the entire Ekiti Local Government Area in Kwara State.
According to the Minister, Vice President Kashim Shettima is leading a high-level delegation to Kebbi State, where he is engaging with the state Governor Nasir Idris, security officials, traditional leaders, and families affected by the abductions.
“The team includes key figures from the ruling All Progressives Congress and federal ministries related to humanitarian affairs and women’s issues, as well as the National Emergency Management Agency” he said.
Minister Idris stressed that the government has placed all security forces on the highest alert to actively pursue and eliminate terrorists and criminals nationwide.
“A special priority is the swift rescue of the abducted schoolgirls and their safe return.Addressing the security discourse, the Minister firmly rejected sectarian interpretations of the crisis” he added.
He emphasized that Nigeria’s security challenges stem from terrorism, banditry, and criminality impacting all ethnic and religious groups.
The government insists that framing the violence in religious terms undermines national unity and fuels division at a precarious time.
Highlighting Nigeria as a multi-faith country with constitutionally guaranteed freedom of worship, Idris called on all citizens to unite against the common enemies—terrorists, bandits, and criminals—rather than fall for divisive misinformation.
The Federal Government remains committed to deploying every available resource and strategy to decisively restore peace and security, with optimism for a successful rescue operation for the abducted students.
