ABUJA  –  THE Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu, PhD, CFR, has denounced the assault on the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) in Eruku, Kwara State, urging swift action to bring the perpetrators to justice.

According to reports, gunmen suspected to be bandits stormed the church during a live-streamed service, leaving three worshippers dead and abducting several others whose number is yet to be determined.

In a statement signed by Udora Orizu, Special Assistant on Press Affairs to the Deputy Speaker, Hon. Kalu described the incident as tragic and deeply troubling, praying for God’s comfort upon the bereaved families and strength for all those affected both physically and emotionally.

He urged security agencies to move with decisive urgency to track down those behind the “inhumane and senseless” attack and to ensure the safe rescue of the kidnapped worshippers.

The Deputy Speaker also commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for suspending his planned diplomatic trip to South Africa for the 20th G20 Summit and subsequently to Luanda for the 7th AU-EU Summit in order to attend to the national emergency.

Kalu said:
“I strongly denounce this horrific attack on a place of worship in Kwara State. My thoughts are with the victims, the injured, and families grappling with heartbreaking loss. May God grant them solace and healing during this painful moment.

“This cruel and unwarranted act violates the principles of peace, unity, and mutual respect that we stand for as a people. Security agencies must immediately conduct a comprehensive investigation, arrest everyone responsible, and ensure they face the full weight of the law.”
