NARD Suspends Nationwide Strike For Four Weeks After Emergency Council Meeting

IBADAN – THE National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has suspended its total, indefinite, and comprehensive (TIC) strike for a period of four weeks following an Extraordinary National Executive Council (E-NEC) meeting held virtually on Saturday.
In a statement released after the meeting, the association said the decision was reached after extensive deliberations and a review of the government’s latest commitments.
NARD President, Dr. Salisu Muhammad Mukhtar, who addressed members during the session, provided a detailed update on the progress made regarding the doctors’ 19-point demands.
According to the communiqué, the NEC expressed confidence that all 19 demands have either been fully met or are currently receiving substantial attention from the government.
The association added that a comprehensive update on each demand would be presented at its forthcoming Extraordinary Council Meeting (ECM).
NARD also restated its support for the National Officers Committee (NOC), led by P-MUS, praising its “steadfastness and commitment” to the welfare of resident doctors across the country.
The Council resolved to uphold the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) earlier signed by the President on the recommendation of both the NOC and E-NOC, describing the government’s posture as one of “good faith.”
With the strike now suspended, NARD has directed all local chapters to convene emergency congresses on Monday, December 1, 2025, at 8:00 a.m. At the meetings, members are expected to receive detailed updates, formally call off the strike, and resume duties immediately.
“The President, NOC, and NEC appreciate all members for their resilience, trust, and unwavering support throughout the period of the strike,” the statement read.
