Okanlomo, Obaloyin Titles: Group congratulates Alaafin On Seyi Tinubu, Yari’s Installation

IBADAN – A prominent group of Oyo indigenes resident in the Federal Capital City, “Oyo Forum, Abuja”, has congratulated the Alaafin of Oyo, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Akeem Abimbola Owoade 1, on the prestigious conferment of chieftaincy titles on the Son of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Barrister Seyi, and a former governor of Zamfara state, Senator Abdulaziz Yari, as ‘Okanlomo’ and ‘Obaloyin’ of Yorubaland, respectively.
In a release signed by Engr. Segun Owolabi and Ambassador Tunde Mustapha (Chairman and Head of Media, respectively), dated December 22, 2025, the group considered the recognition as very apt and timely, “as it reflects the enduring Yoruba values of courage, service, leadership and commitment to societal progress which the title of Okanlomo symbolizes.
“We also congratulate His Imperial Majesty for conferring the title of Obaloyin of Yorubaland on Distinguished Senator Abdulaziz Yari, one of the foremost Senators of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. This however further underscores the Alaafin’s wisdom in recognizing outstanding leadership and contributions to national development.
“The conferment of these noble titles by the Alaafin stands as a clear testimony to the continuous relevance of traditional institutions as vital complements to democratic governance in Nigeria. It reinforces the role of the Yoruba traditional institution as a moral compass, custodian of culture, and unifying force for the people.
“Furthermore, the Oyo Forum, Abuja, commends Distinguished Senator (Dr.) Akintunde Yunusa, and Hon. Akeem Adeyemi for their invaluable support, and for, as it were, “relocating the National Assembly to Oyo”, during the Iwuye ceremony. Their presence and commitment once again demonstrates effective representation and deep respect for Yoruba heritage and tradition.
“The Oyo Forum, Abuja, proudly reaffirms its readiness to stand as a partner in progress with the Okanlomo of Yorubaland, the Obaloyin of Yorubaland, and our esteemed Representatives at all levels in the collective pursuit of the development of Oyo Alaafin, the entire Yorubaland, and the Federal Republic of Nigeria at large”, the release said.
