Gov. Yusuf Rejoins APC, Say It’s Time To Ends Kano’s Isolationist Politics

KANO- KANO State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, on Monday formally rejoined the All Progressives Congress (APC), stating that the move was aimed at ending decades of opposition and isolationist politics in the state.
Abba Kabir Yusuf who spoke during the officials defection at Government House Kano, said “Leadership must rise above comfort, sentiment, or personal interest. That is why, after wide consultation and careful reflection on the future of Kano State, I relinquish my membership of the NNPP and have joined the party that is better for Kano.”
He stated that, “I, Abba Kabir Yusuf, Governor of Kano State, along with my cabinet, 22 out of 24 State Assembly members, and the 44 local government chairmen, have agreed to align ourselves with the ruling party, the APC.”
The governor explained that his return to the APC was anchored on the need to align Kano State with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s central government, supporting a renewed national development agenda from which Kano will strongly benefit.
“This decision is not driven by personal interests or negative reasons, but for the good of Kano and the transformational vision of the state,” he said.
“Kano is blessed with abundant resources, and we must stop confrontational politics.
Yusuf stressed that “Government is not a personal matter but a responsibility to the people. We are choosing development over personal interests, progress over desires, and we are rejecting retrogressive politics in favor of a developmental government.”
He expressed confidence that the move would create a calmer political atmosphere in Kano, emphasizing that it does not diminish the contributions of those who helped him rise to power. “I remain grateful to all who supported me. My loyalty is unwavering and belongs to Kano—Kano comes first,” he said.
To further stabilize the state’s politics, Governor Yusuf announced the creation of a Kano Elders Council, a non-partisan body of respected leaders tasked with guiding, reconciling, and resolving conflicts in the state.
“The council will serve as a moral and stabilizing force, ensuring that Kano moves forward in unity. The government remains inclusive—no one will be left out, and everyone will be carried along,” he said.
The ceremony marking Governor Yusuf’s return was held at the State Coronation Hall, with prominent figures in attendance, including former Governor Umar Ganduje, Deputy President of the Senate Senator Barau Jibrin, National and State Assembly members, Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna, Inuwa Waya, Senator Kawu Sumaila, and other senior APC leaders at both state and national levels.
The halls reverberated with the songs of President Tinubu and Governor Yusuf, reflecting the celebratory mood of the event.
State APC Chairman Abdullahi Abbas described Governor Yusuf’s decision as a step forward for Kano’s development, expressing the party’s full loyalty to the state government.
He also pledged Kano’s readiness to work with President Tinubu and his administration to achieve the state’s development goals.
