Senate Approves Justice Oyewole’s Appointment As Supreme Court Justice

ABUJA   –   THE Senate has confirmed President Bola Tinubu’s nomination of Justice Joseph Olubunmi Kayode Oyewole for appointment as a Justice of the Supreme Court of Nigeria.

This followed the consideration of the report of its Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights and Legal Matters, chaired by Senator Adeniyi Adegbonmire (APC Ondo Central) during plenary on Tuesday.

Presenting the report, Senator Adegbonmire said Justice Oyewole, during his screening performed well by answering all questions intelligently and therefore recommended his confirmation for the prestigious office.

The Senate, therefore,i unanimously approved the committee’s report and confirmed the nomination of Justice Oyewole as a Supreme Court Justice.

In his remarks after the confirmation, the Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio congratulated the nominee and charged him to do justice to all and sundry irrespective of circumstances.

Akpabio also commended the chairman of the chairman and members of the committee “for the speedy manner in which they carried out this assignment.”

Similarly, he congratulated President Tinubu “on finding a square peg in a square hole” that had made it possible for the Senate to collectively and unanimously endorse Justice Oyewole’s nomination as a Justice of the Supreme Court.

He expressed believe that through the new JSC and others already there, justice would be served to the common man including senators in the country.

President Tinubu had last week Tuesday, in pursuant to Section 231 (2) of the 1999 Constitution, as amended, written the Senate, seeking the confirmation of Justice Oyewole as Justice of the Supreme Court with expeditious consideration.
