2027: We Don’t Need Governor To Deliver Rivers For Tinubu — Wike

ABUJA – FEDERAL Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Barr. Nyesom Wike, has declared that Rivers State does not need a sitting governor to mobilise massive support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election in 2027.
Wike made the bold statement on Saturday in Port Harcourt during the commissioning of the Rivers State Renewed Hope Ambassadors headquarters, which houses Majority FM 89.5, a situation room, office facilities and operational buses.
Throwing his weight behind the movement’s mobilisation drive, Wike said Rivers people were fully committed to Tinubu’s second term bid, insisting that the state remains a “no-go area” for opposition forces.
“We don’t need to have a governor to mobilise for Mr President. We have all it takes to be on our own,” Wike declared.
He reeled out the political structure backing the President in the state, including senators, National Assembly members, assembly members, council chairmen and party leaders across party lines.
“If you say you are supporting somebody, there is no need for the person to bring his resources. You have to show commitment, and this is what our leaders have done,” he said.
The former Rivers governor commended the Coordinator of the Rivers State Renewed Hope Ambassadors, Ambassador Desmond Akawor, for what he described as aggressive grassroots mobilisation across the 23 local government areas of the state.
“Desmond Akawor, you have shown enough capacity to mobilise. You have moved to all the nooks and crannies of Rivers to talk about Tinubu for President in 2027,” Wike said.
He challenged other states to emulate Rivers, boasting that the structure on ground speaks louder than political rhetoric.
“Our commitment is not by mouth, not by newspaper. Ours is by showing that indeed we are working for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Let anybody come to Rivers and learn,” he added.
Wike recalled that in 2023, Rivers leaders took what he described as a bold and independent decision to support Tinubu without pressure from any quarters.
“Whether anybody likes it or not, in 2027 when the President has shown interest to run, we have no choice than to continue to support him,” he said.
He further directed the movement’s leadership to immediately begin inauguration of ward and unit coordinators to deepen grassroots mobilisation.
“We must take it down to the units and talk to our people. Go and see the situation room, go and see the radio station we are battle ready. There is nothing we cannot do because unity is strength,” Wike declared.
Earlier, Ambassador Desmond Akawor praised Wike for providing leadership to the Renewed Hope Ambassadors movement in Rivers State.
Akawor disclosed that coordinators had already been appointed across the 23 local government areas and described Wike’s political strategy as “AI politics,” saying it is strategic, proactive and result-oriented.
