IBADAN – THE lawmaker representing Ibadan North Constituency I in the Oyo State House of Assembly, Hon. Olufunke Comforter Olajide, has said she is fulfilling her destiny by bringing development closer to her constituents.
Hon. Olajide, who also serves as the Chairman, House Committee on Women Affairs and Community Development, made this known on Saturday while speaking with journalists during her empowerment programme and commissioning of projects held at Mount Olivet Grammar School, Ashi Bodija, Ibadan.
The event, which formed part of activities marking her birthday anniversary, featured the commissioning of several community-based projects.
These included a newly built Amotekun Office at Ashi Bodija, renovated Police Officers’ Wives Association (POWA) shops at Yemetu that were recently destroyed by fire, and newly constructed boreholes with generators to serve as alternative power sources at Yemetu, Oje Market, and Ashi Bodija.
In addition, the lawmaker presented financial support to shop owners affected by the recent inferno, distributed food items and gas stoves to various groups within the constituency, and empowered over 200 trained young entrepreneurs with start-up grants and vocational tools.
Speaking at the event, Hon. Olajide expressed gratitude and reaffirmed her commitment to delivering more dividends of democracy.
“I see myself fulfilling destiny by bringing development closer to my people in my own way,” she said.
She assured her constituents of continued service and greater impact if given the opportunity for a second term.
“By the special grace of God, if given the opportunity to serve a second term, they should expect even greater impact. Even within the remaining period of this first term, we still have over a year to go; there is more to come by God’s grace,” she said.
The lawmaker attributed her passion for service and her desire to make meaningful impact in society.
“My motivation is rooted in Christ in me, the hope of glory. I have always seen myself as a solution to my world,” she stated.
She also acknowledged the inspiration she draws from Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, noting that her efforts align with the administration’s people-oriented development agenda.
“As we follow in the footsteps of our Governor, we are reaching out to the needy and ensuring that governance is felt at the grassroots,” she added.
As part of her support for education, Hon. Olajide announced free JAMB and NECO registration forms for 20 outstanding students of Mount Olivet Grammar School.
Earlier, during the commissioning of projects at Yemetu and Oje Market, the Oyo State Head of Service, Mrs. Olubunmi Olufunke, commended the lawmaker for her grassroots development initiatives.
She described the projects as part of the dividends of democracy being delivered under the administration of Governor Seyi Makinde.
“These laudable projects reflect the requests of the people, and she has delivered on them. She is fulfilling the mandate of her constituents, and we are proud of her,” she said.
Similarly, the State Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Hon. Dayo Ogungbenro, urged beneficiaries to take proper care of the projects, particularly the boreholes and generators provided as alternative power sources.
“They should see them as their own projects and maintain them properly to ensure long-term use,” he advised.
Other dignitaries at the event included the Deputy Chief of Staff, Hon. Kazeem Adeniyi Bibiire; the member representing Ibadan North Federal Constituency, Hon. Folajimi Oyekunle (DON); the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Inclusion, Mrs. Toyin Balogun; Hon. Daud Olalere, state lawmaker representing Ibadan North West State Constituency, Hon. Olasunkanmi Babalola, State lawmaker representing Egbeda State Constituency, Ibadan North Local Government Chairman, Hon. Seun Onifade, Political leaders and loyalists across all the wards in Ibadan North, members of various community associations, among others.
