Police Arrest Two Over Suspected Murder Of 62-Year-Old Woman In Ibadan

IBADAN — THE Oyo State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of two suspects in connection with the suspected murder of a 62-year-old woman at Ori-Apata Oderemi area of Ido, Ibadan.
In a press statement signed on Friday by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, the Command disclosed that the incident was reported by a good Samaritan who discovered the victim’s body along a bush path in the community.
“The deceased was found lying in a pool of blood with a deep cut on her neck,” the statement read.
“Preliminary findings revealed that the corpse had been at the location for at least seven (7) days prior to its discovery.”
The police added that upon receipt of the report, detectives promptly visited the scene and evacuated the body to the morgue at Adeoyo General Hospital for autopsy.
“Consequently, the body was immediately evacuated to the morgue at Adeoyo General Hospital for autopsy and post-mortem examination to scientifically determine the actual cause of death,” the statement added.
According to the Command, the scene was sealed off and forensic experts were deployed to gather evidence.
“In furtherance of a thorough investigation, the scene was immediately sealed off while forensic experts were deployed to process and gather necessary evidence that will aid in identifying, arresting, and prosecuting the perpetrator(s),” the police stated.
The case has since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for discreet investigation.
“Preliminary investigation has led to the arrest of two suspects now identified as Muhammed Sanusi ‘m’ age 42 years and Ogbu James Ajah ‘m’ age 40 years, both residents of Ori-Apata area, Ido, in connection with the incident,” the statement disclosed.
It further noted that, “The suspects are currently in custody at the State CID and are assisting the Police with ongoing investigations, while efforts are being intensified to apprehend any other accomplices linked to the crime.”
The Command also addressed the tension that followed the discovery of the body.
“The unfortunate development initially triggered protests by aggrieved family members and sympathisers within the community. However, the situation was swiftly brought under control through the timely intervention of the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Ido Division, in collaboration with the Local Government Chairman,” the statement said.
Their intervention, according to the police, “helped restore calm and prevent any breakdown of law and order.”
The Commissioner of Police, Femi Haruna, was said to have visited the community alongside government officials.
“In demonstration of responsive leadership, the Commissioner of Police, Femi Haruna, alongside a high-powered delegation of the Oyo State Government, visited the affected community to assess the situation firsthand and commiserate with the bereaved family,” the statement read.
The CP further directed that, “the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations coordinate and lead all necessary operational deployments to ensure sustained peace and stability in the area.”
While assuring the public of justice, the Command stated:
“The Oyo State Police Command assures members of the public that no stone will be left unturned in unravelling the circumstances surrounding this heinous act and ensuring that justice is served.”
Residents were urged to remain calm and provide credible information to aid the ongoing investigation.
