IBADAN — THE Oyo State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening collaboration with the media, pledging enhanced engagement and transparency in governance.
The assurance was given by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Prof. Musibau Babatunde, when he received the Executive members of the Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Oyo State Council, during a familiarisation visit to his office in Ibadan.
The Correspondents’ Chapel is the umbrella body for journalists representing media organisations whose head offices are located outside Oyo State.
Speaking during the visit, Prof. Babatunde stated that the relationship between the state government and the media over the past six to seven years has been built on trust, mutual respect, and professionalism.
“Our working relationship over the past six or seven years has been anchored on trust and mutual respect. That confidence has been very important to us, and we value it greatly. We do not take that for granted,” the SSG said.
He assured that the government would continue to address concerns raised by the media, including criticisms and negative perceptions, through sustained dialogue and open communication.
“This is not just a meeting; it marks the beginning of even better collaboration. We look forward to working more closely together in the future,” he added.
Earlier in his remarks, the Chairman of the Correspondents’ Chapel, Comrade Yinka Adeniran, said the visit followed the election of the new executives last month.
He commended the strides recorded by the Oyo State Government in the last six years, describing the administration as one that has redefined governance in the state. Adeniran also praised Prof. Babatunde for his humility and simplicity despite his academic and political standing.
Also speaking, the Vice Chairman of the Chapel, Comrade Remi Koleoso, emphasised the importance of sustained partnership between the media and the government.
He disclosed plans to relaunch the Chapel’s monthly quality guest forum, an initiative designed to host distinguished personalities for interactive engagements with journalists.
Koleoso urged the government to continue to regard the media as strategic partners in development, assuring of the Chapel’s commitment to constructive engagement in the interest of the state.
