IGP Puts Police On Alert Over Middle East Crisis, Assures Nigerians Of Safety

ABUJA — THE Acting Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Disu, has reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to the protection of lives and property amid escalating geopolitical tensions in the Middle East.
In a statement released by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Benjamin Hundeyin, the police leadership maintained that Nigeria’s internal security architecture remains stable and firmly under control. Nonetheless, it confirmed that enhanced security measures have been activated nationwide to forestall any potential fallout from global developments.
As part of the directive, Commissioners of Police in the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory have been instructed to scale up intelligence gathering and surveillance operations. The order places particular emphasis on the North West, North East, and North Central regions.
The measures include closer engagement with traditional and religious leaders, increased visibility policing around places of worship and other public locations, and decisive action against individuals or groups seeking to exploit international tensions to incite unrest or sectarian divisions.
The police high command made it clear that Nigeria would not become a battleground for external ideological or religious disputes, warning that any attempt to import foreign conflicts into the country would attract the full weight of the law.
The IGP further called on community leaders to intensify peace-building efforts and urged Nigerians to remain calm, vigilant, and law-abiding. Citizens were encouraged to report suspicious activities promptly to the nearest police station.
Reiterating its constitutional mandate, the Force assured Nigerians of its preparedness and resolve to maintain national peace and security at all times.
