Billboards Of Oluyole LG Chairman Akeem Olatunji Vandalised, As Security Operatives Pledge To Fish Out Perpetrators

IBADAN — TENSION rose in parts of Oluyole Local Government Area, Oyo State, following the vandalisation of two billboards belonging to the council chairman, Akeem Olatunji.
The incident, which reportedly occurred late Monday night, targeted billboard structures located at the popular 7-Up Bus Stop and on the bridge at Olomi, both high-traffic areas within the council.
Residents disclosed that the damage was discovered early Wednesday morning, with significant portions of the billboard materials torn and sections of the supporting frames partially destroyed.
The affected sites are known for heavy vehicular and pedestrian movement, making the act particularly noticeable.
Sources described the incident as unfortunate and provocative, noting that the billboards were recently mounted as part of public awareness and political engagement initiatives.
Reacting to the development, Olatunji strongly condemned the act, describing it as “dastardly” and unacceptable in a democratic society.
“This is a dastardly act that should be condemned by all well-meaning individuals, groups, and political parties,” he said.
The chairman stated that politics in Oyo State had evolved beyond violence and property destruction.
“Politics is now about ideas and results, not violence. It is unfortunate that anyone would resort to vandalism at this time. This is utterly ridiculous and disgusting,” he added.
Olatunji further revealed that local security operatives had been directed to conduct a thorough investigation to identify and apprehend those responsible.
A security source within the local government confirmed that preliminary findings indicate the act was carried out under the cover of darkness.
“We are reviewing relevant information and speaking with individuals around the affected areas. Those responsible will be identified and brought to justice,” the source said.
Supporters of the chairman who visited the affected locations also condemned the incident, urging political stakeholders within the council area to maintain decorum and avoid actions capable of escalating tensions.
They appealed to residents to remain calm and refrain from speculation while investigations continue.
Despite the incident, Olatunji reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to protecting lives and property across the council area, warning against any actions that could threaten public peace.
