IBADAN — THE founder of the One Love Family, Satguru Maharaj Ji, has defended Yoruba nation activist, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, amid calls for his arrest by the Department of State Services (DSS).
Maharaj Ji described Igboho as a committed advocate for human rights, stating that the controversy surrounding his alleged remarks has been exaggerated. He argued that expressing strong opinions on national issues should not attract threats of arrest or intimidation.
According to him, Igboho has consistently positioned himself as a defender of his people, and his actions should be viewed within the context of advocacy rather than incitement.
He stressed that democracy thrives when citizens are allowed to speak freely, warning that attempts to silence dissenting voices could undermine justice, fairness, and freedom of expression.
He called on Nigerians to remain calm and avoid politicising the situation, emphasizing dialogue, tolerance, and peaceful coexistence across the country.
In a strongly worded statement, Maharaj Ji also criticised opposition figures, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, accusing them of actions he claimed could threaten national unity and stability.
He expressed confidence that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu would not direct security agencies to detain Igboho, describing such claims as speculative and politically motivated.
Maharaj Ji further asserted that the current administration has made significant strides in governance and national development, while urging critics to adopt a more constructive approach to nation-building.
In a separate message, Maharaj Ji congratulated President Tinubu on his 74th birthday, praising his resilience and leadership.
He expressed confidence in the President’s vision for Nigeria, noting that his policies are aimed at long-term development and national stability.
The spiritual leader urged Nigerians, particularly youths and students, to continue supporting the administration and to back Tinubu in the 2027 general elections. He argued that continuity in leadership would help sustain progress and strengthen national unity.
Maharaj Ji also commended the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), stating that the party has demonstrated commitment to reforms, infrastructure development, economic recovery, and security.
While acknowledging that no government is without shortcomings, he maintained that the progress recorded under the current administration should not be overlooked.
He concluded by urging Nigerians to remain patient and optimistic, expressing confidence that ongoing policies would yield positive results, and emphasizing that unity and cooperation are essential for achieving lasting peace and prosperity.
