2027: Oyo Waste Contractors Laud Makinde For ‘Strategic’ Political Alliance, Pledge Support

IBADAN — WASTE management contractors operating in Oyo state have commended Governor Seyi Makinde over what they described as a strategic political alliance capable of strengthening governance and sustaining development across the state ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The contractors, under the aegis of Lere Adigun Vanguard otherwise known as the Sahara Boys, said the governor’s recent political consultations and alliance-building efforts reflected maturity, inclusiveness and commitment to the continued progress of Oyo State and the South-West region.
Leader of the group, Mr Odeyemi, Davis Michael, in a statement on Tuesday, said Makinde had, through his administration’s policies and leadership style, demonstrated capacity for coalition-building beyond partisan interests, noting that such political understanding would further deepen stability and development.
He commended Makinde for the grand alliance between the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and the Allied People’s Movement (APM) ahead of the forthcoming 2027 general elections.
The group explained that Nigeria as a nation is now at a tipping point requiring a nationalist and a visionary leader who can redirect the nation’s socioeconomic fortunes on the path of sustainable development.
Odeyemi particularly lauded Makinde for the choice of former commissioner for Finance and Economic Planning in the state, Mr Bimbo Adekanbi, as his preferred successor, stressing that such move demonstrated the highest level of determination to ensure continuity of good governance beyond 2027.
The contractors noted that the present administration had transformed the environmental sector through improved waste management policies, stronger institutional coordination and enhanced operational support for contractors across the state.
According to them, the government’s continuous engagement with stakeholders in the sanitation and environmental management sector had helped improve efficiency in refuse evacuation and environmental sanitation in major parts of the state.
Odeyemi said the contractors decided to openly declare support for the governor because of what he described as “visible achievements and people-oriented governance” recorded under the Makinde administration.
He said the governor had maintained cordial relationships with workers, contractors, traditional institutions and political stakeholders, adding that the emerging political alliance between the PDP and APM being championed by the governor would further promote peace and continuity in governance.
“We are proud of the leadership style of Governor Makinde. He has shown wisdom in governance and political coordination. What we are seeing is a strategic alliance aimed at sustaining development, unity and progress not only in Oyo State but across the region,” he said.
Odeyemi added that contractors in the environmental sector had benefited from improved communication and better operational structures introduced by the administration.
He further stated that members of the association would mobilise support across the 33 local government areas for the governor and candidates aligned with his developmental vision ahead of the 2027 elections.
“We are fully in support of Governor Makinde and his political direction ahead of 2027. As stakeholders who have worked closely with this administration, we can testify to the governor’s commitment to good governance and infrastructural development,” he added.
He described the governor as a leader who listens to stakeholders and prioritises practical solutions to governance issues rather than a convenient approach to score cheap political points.
He said the administration’s investments in environmental sanitation, waste disposal systems and public health awareness had improved conditions in several communities across the state.
The contractors also pledged continued cooperation with the state government through OYOWMA to ensure cleaner communities and improved environmental practices across the state.
They urged residents to continue supporting government sanitation initiatives and comply with environmental regulations aimed at promoting public health and sustainable development.
The group maintained that Governor Makinde’s leadership had continued to attract confidence from different sectors due to his administration’s consistency in policy implementation and stakeholder engagement.
