COVID-19 Variant XEC: NBMA Issues Advisory Message To Nigerians

ABUJA – With the detection of a new variant of the COVID-19 virus known as XEC in some countries,, the National Biosafety Management Agency (NBMA) has encouraged all eligible individuals to get vaccinated, wear Faced Masks, receive booster shots and observe all precautionary safety measures even as it assured that efforts are to top gear to prevent the virus incursion into the country.
NBMA’ said though there is no confirmed case in Nigeria, proactive measures, including heightened surveillance at borders, airports, and other points of entry, are being implemented to detect any potential cases promptly.
NBMA’ Head of Information and Public Relations, Gloria Ogbaki in a statement on Monday issued a public advisory as part of ongoing efforts to ensure Nigeria remains protected from emerging biosecurity threats saying the NBMA is working closely with relevant stakeholders to monitor and assess the situation.
‘In light of this development, the NBMA is issuing the following public advisory to ensure continued safety:
Continue to practice the preventive measures that have helped curb the spread of COVID-19, including wearing masks(N45), practicing good hand hygiene, maintaining physical distancing where possible, and ensuring proper ventilation in indoor spaces.
“Get Vaccinated: We strongly encourage all eligible individuals to get vaccinated and receive booster shots. Vaccination remains one of the most effective means of preventing severe illness and complications from COVID-19.
