Ember Months: OYRTMA Flags Off Safety Campaign With Road Walk In Ibadan

IBADAN – IN a bid to promote safe driving and reduce road crashes during the ember months, the Oyo State Road Traffic Management Authority (OYRTMA) on Thursday flagged off its 2025 Ember Months Safety Campaign with a road walk across major routes in Ibadan.
The awareness exercise, led by the Executive Chairman of OYRTMA, Major Adekoya Adesagba (Rtd), was organized in partnership with the Oyo State Vehicle Inspection Services (VIS) and the Oyo State Park Management System (PMS).
The campaign team took off from the State Secretariat, Agodi, and moved through key areas including Bodija, Ojoo, Sango, Mokola Roundabout, Dugbe, Odo-Ona, Apata, and Challenge, sensitizing motorists and commuters on safe road practices.
Speaking with journalists during the exercise, Major Adesagba emphasized that the ember months—often associated with increased road accidents—should not be seen as a period of doom, but rather as a time for heightened caution, responsibility, and compliance with traffic rules.
He noted that the sensitization campaign was aimed at curbing reckless driving, enforcing traffic laws, discouraging overloading, and enlightening road users on the importance of vehicle maintenance and discipline.
“The state government, through OYRTMA, will continue to combine sensitization with enforcement to ensure road users’ compliance with safety regulations,” Adesagba said.
“We urge motorists to avoid overspeeding, ensure their vehicles are in good condition, and refrain from driving under the influence of alcohol.”
The OYRTMA boss disclosed that the agency would deploy breath analyzers across all motor parks to test drivers before they embark on trips, as part of efforts to prevent accidents caused by drunk driving.
He further reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to sustaining synergy with other traffic management and security agencies in the state to strengthen enforcement and ensure a safer transport environment during and beyond the ember months.
