Fubara Deceived PDP, Boasted Tinubu Will Force Budget Passage, Wike’s Support For Re-election — Rivers PDP Chair Alleges

ABUJA – A factional Caretaker Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State, Dr. Nname Ewor, has accused Governor Siminalayi Fubara of deceiving party leaders and supporters by claiming he could wrest political control from the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barr. Nyesom Wike, before eventually defecting to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Ewor also alleged that the governor had been boasting that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu would compel members of the Rivers State House of Assembly to pass the state budget and force Wike to work for Fubara’s re-election.
Addressing journalists in Port Harcourt on Thursday, Ewor demanded that Governor Fubara should fully disclose the terms of the peace agreement allegedly brokered by President Tinubu before the emergency rule in Rivers State was lifted.
“The mandate Governor Fubara is holding was freely given to him by the people of Rivers State, and whatever agreement he entered into affects the entire state,” Ewor said. “It is therefore incumbent on him to disclose, in full, all the agreements reached before Mr President prior to the lifting of the emergency rule.”
Tracing the political crisis, Ewor recalled that the rift between the governor and the State House of Assembly within Fubara’s first year in office culminated in the bombing of the Assembly complex and a presidentially brokered peace pact, which later collapsed and led to the declaration of a state of emergency in March 2025.
He said many PDP leaders were misled by propaganda during the crisis. “We were deceived into believing the governor could wrestle control from Wike. Rather than tell us the truth, we were fed with lies,” he alleged.
According to him, a second peace deal brokered during the emergency rule was not documented nor made public, and its eventual collapse preceded Fubara’s defection from the PDP to the APC in December 2025.
Ewor described the governor’s defection as improper, arguing that he “took a mandate given by the PDP to another party.”
Ewor further accused the governor of abandoning the path of peace, alleging that Fubara had been claiming that President Tinubu would compel lawmakers to pass the budget and also force Wike to back his second-term ambition.
On internal party matters, Ewor defended the legitimacy of the PDP’s Ibadan National Convention held in November 2025, which dissolved the Rivers State executive committee and led to the appointment of a caretaker committee.
He noted that Fubara was still a PDP governor at the time but failed to attend the convention, describing the action as “double standards.”
He also addressed comments made by Wike during his recent thank-you tour of the 23 local government areas, where the FCT minister alleged that Fubara reneged on several terms of the peace agreement, including commitments relating to appointments and a second-term ambition.
While acknowledging that issues of re-election are now between Fubara and the APC, Ewor insisted that Rivers people deserve transparency.
“As citizens and stakeholders, we demand that Governor Siminalayi Fubara address Rivers people, Nigerians and the international community on all agreements reached with the President, the FCT Minister and the State House of Assembly,” he said. “This is about accountability, responsible leadership and the peaceful governance of Rivers State.”
Ewor maintained that full disclosure is necessary to enable Rivers people to make informed decisions ahead of the 2027 general elections.
