Present at the brief ceremony were State APC Secretary, Eric Nwibani, Publicity Secretary, Chibuike Ikenga, and Minister of Aviation Festus Keyamo, who was in Port Harcourt for a road project commissioning.
Speaking, Chief Tony Okocha who hailed the Governor for his decision, stated that he was directed by the APC National Chairman to present the party’s membership card to the governor.
He stated, “Your excellency, I was called up by the chairman of our great party and given the mandate to visit you and to formally present our membership card to you as a prelude to your official reception.
“Let me take this time out to congratulate you on your decision to join the All Progressive Congress.”
Responding, Governor Siminalayi Fubara explained that his decision to join the APC was driven by the interest and progress of Rivers State.
He emphasized that it will now be his responsibility to ensure the party is well-managed and strengthened in the state.

He said, “Let me thank my chairman for taking up this. Like him, he said it’s a spiritual assignment. I want to thank you for accepting to embark on this spiritual assignment.
“It is a spiritual assignment because if you had listened to me when I took this decision, it was for the safety, protection, progress, and development of our dear state.
“There is every reason to support Mr President. If not for any other thing, as a person, I know the sacrifice he has made to ensure that we still stand as a government.”
The governor further explained that his decision is a personal commitment to facilitate President Tinubu’s 2027 reelection in Rivers State, ensuring a smooth path for the party.
“So I took this decision as my own return favour, my own clearing the bush to ensure that his reelection come 2027 will be easy, smooth in this state.
“Now that we are all in one party, because I believe that we have always been with him, but maybe from different flats.”
Governor Fubara expressed gratitude to the APC national executive and state chairman, assuring them that every need of the party and its executives in Rivers State will be his responsibility.

“We will do everything to keep APC as the main and active progressive party in Rivers State. We are not only going to stop there, but it is my responsibility from this minute to ensure that the party is properly taken care of.
“I will assure you here that every need of the executive, every need of the party in this state, becomes my responsibility.”
