Gov. Bago Receives Last Batch Of 130 Rescued Papiri Students, Staff

MINNA – IN Niger state, Governor Mohammad Umaru Bago has officially received the remaining 130 pupils and staff of St. Mary’s Catholic Primary and Secondary School children including 7 teachers at Government House, Minna, on Monday 2nd December, 2025.
Handing over the children and staff to Governor Bago after hours of waiting,
the National Coordinator of Counter Terrorism Centre, Maj-Gen Adamu Laka (Rtd), said the rescue mission was carried out in collaboration with the office of National Security Adviser (NSA) to the President, DSS, Police and other security agencies.
To avoid future incidents, Maj-Gen Laka said the government had taken necessary measures to safe guard the life’s of all Nigerians in any parts of the country.
While applauding Nigerians for their support and prayers which made the rescue and safe return of the victims possible, Laka said all the children had been finally rescued, and non remained in captivity.
The retired General told Governor Bago that, “All the children and their teachers were rescued unhurt”.
He further explained that the rescue of the 130 children brings to the end the rescue mission.
Earlier, Governor Umaru Bago had appreciated President Bola Tinubu for his unweavering support towards the speedy release of the school children.
The governor equally lauded Nigerians for their solidarity and prayers during the trying times.
The visibly happy Governor Bago said, “As we are approaching the yuletide, I am inviting the children and their parents to Minna to celebrate Christmas with me”.
Governor Bago who however expreased appreciation to God for the safe return of the children, encouraged Nigerians to continue to pray for an end to security challenges which has attracted so much bad publicity for Nigeria.
Our correspondent however reports that 23 pupils and students were still unaccounted for as only 292 pupils and students have officially returned.
