In their efforts to reward hard work and excellence, the Old Students Association of Ibadan Christ Apostolic Grammar School (ICAGSOBA), Aperin Oniyere, Ibadan has rewarded 81students, three principals, three teachers and two non teaching staffs of their Alma Mater with cash prize.
The beneficiaries of the National ICAGSOBA Prize Giving Day according to the President of the association, Dr. Morohunkola Thomas include 50 brilliant but vulnerable students, 31 outstanding students received 2024 WAEC forms free of charge, outstanding students in 2022/2023 WAEC received a laptop computer worth six hundred thousand naira.
In his address, Barrister Morohunkola Thomas who also doubles as the Special Adviser to Governor Makinde on Socio-Economic Development urged parents to pay more attention to the education of their children and wards.
He said, “I’m appealing to the students to be more serious with their studies, they should know that there is no shortcut to success, education remains the only ladder to a successful career and business. I urge parent to pay more attention to the education of their children and wards, all stakeholders in education must contribute their quota as government alone cannot provide adequate education for our children.”
“I urge all members of our association to continue to support the national executive council in its efforts to make the Ibadan Christ Apostolic Grammar School a better institution than we left it.”
“The founders of this great institution which was founded over 63 years ago set it up to train young boys who will establish a very close relationship with the Almighty God and also excel in their academic pursuits, the founders wanted a school that will produce men of conscience and vision that will play leading roles in the development of our dear country, I’m happy to say that the intention of the founders has been met as evidenced by the great men who are involved in the management of our country’s socio political economy and who are also playing critical important roles in many advanced countries of the world.
“Since the year 2020 when the present national executive council was put in place, we have committed ourselves to bringing back the lost glory of this great school in academics, sports, moral upbringing and the architectural heritage of this school, one of the steps we have taken in that direction is the resuscitation of the Prize Giving Day which is meant to promote healthy competition amongst the students thus enhancing their academic development, today’s occasion is the second of such event.”
“We sincerely appreciate the efforts of our teachers and principals in ensuring that the students are properly brought up, to this end, we have devoted some prizes for the best teachers while the principals will be given award for excellent performance, this event has cost the association about 4 million naira which was contributed mainly by our members in Nigeria, the United States, and the United Kingdom.” Barrister Morohunkola Thomas said.
In his speech, the Chairman of the planning committee of the event, who also doubles as the founder of the Restanchor Total Child Parenting Foundation, Pastor (Prince) Leye Adefioye commended the donors of the Prize for their support.
He said, “I would like to express our gratitude to the generous prize donors, your support makes it possible for us to recognize and reward outstanding students in our Alma mater, your belief in the lower of education and excellence is truly commendable and we thank you all for your invaluable contributions, your generosity will have a lasting impact on the lives of these talented students.”
“I want to congratulate our award winners, your hard work, dedication and commitment to excellence have not gone unnoticed, you are the embodiment of what this day represents and your achievements inspire us all to strive for greatness in our own endeavors, each of you have demonstrated that with determination, one can reach the highest peaks of success. Keep pushing the boundaries of what you can achieve because your excellence knows no bounds.” Adefioye said.
In his remarks, the chairman of the occasion, CP Fatai Owoseni (rtd), who also doubles as the Special Adviser to the Governor Makinde emphasized the need for parents to take a closer watch on their wards and asked them to shun bad gangs. He congratulated the beneficiaries and encouraged other students to emulate their colleagues by striving hard to be the next award winners.
Mr Fatai Owoseni made a seed donation for the establishment of a technical section in the school where skills can be developed, he also announced his support to pay for the 2024 WASSCE of ten indigent students.
