Internship Key To Engineering Sustainability, Anthony Adeniji’s Advices Young Engineers

IBADAN – The Chief Executive Officer of Buff-I Limited and a Professional Member of the Nigeria Society of Engineers, Engr Dr. Anthony Adeniji has called young engineers to prioritize internship training for sustainability in the Engineering Industry.
The call came during the 2025 Induction Programme of the 2023/24 Nigeria Society of Engineers Graduates Induction held at the Faculty of Technology, University of Ibadan, on Wednesday.
The scholar noted the significance of internship noting that internship training usually exposes graduate engineers to real world problems in different fields of engineering, and practical participation birth new ideas.
He added that learning engineering management and balance between theory and practice becomes a subject through internship training.
The Engineering Icon said being a volunteer in engineering companies and industries helps in building networks, vision and aspirations growth, saying, Internship training is a must in the industry after first degree. Internship will expose graduate engineer to real world problem in different fields of engineering

” Being a volunteer in engineering companies and industries. It is a sure plug for skills and practical learning. Add values to your first degree by gating engaged in practical technical skills. No employer will absorb anyone who will add economy profit chain to their business. Skills, knowledge and solution mind set should be the focus in working in any engineering firm, industry or organization.
Being a guest speaker at the 2025 Induction programme themed,” Engineering Theory to Praxis: Expectations from young engineers in solving real world problems, Engr Dr. Anthony Adeniji called the young engineers to focus on solving engineering problems, including problems relating to energy, automobile, building and construction, engineering management, waste management and engineering pollution for a better competitive societal environment.
He admonished graduate engineers to develop passion in solving engineering/technology problem. Passion is the only driving force to greatness. The challenges of growing up in professional carrier are enormous, but only passion driven skills and knowledge will survive. A good sense of character is also crucial in fulfilling purpose in engineering world. Young engineers must be character worthy individual.
‘’When ground tremble character stands’’.Networking must be prioritized among the young engineering graduate. It is pertinent to build a strong network among different field of engineering. Graduate are encouraged to form a cliché and brainstorm on the different ideas of solving different engineering problems.
‘’No one is as smart as all of us’’. No engineer can survive in isolation, build one another.
Dr. Adeniji berated the quest for quick money by youths of this age, saying this has been adjudged non-sustainable owing to government policy which may crash such digital monetary mechanisms, including cryptocurrency, which drives youths’ interests.
“I have made my research into why youths drive for digital monetary mechanisms including Cryptocurrency, and Binance among youths of this age instead of internship training; let me tell you our Genzes, this may not be sustainable as government policy can crash it”.
” A single policy of government can make everyone bankrupt on those money platforms but for engineering, government policy is for sustainability ”
“To this end, I am enthused to reiterate that the University of Ibadan under the enigma leadership of Professor Kayode Adebowale, the Vice-Chancellor and the Dean of Faculty of Engineering (Prof. A.I. Bamgboye) have built you well for a better future engineering and technology. it is imperative of you to focus on the area of solving engineering problems, problems in energy, problems in automobile, problem in high way construction, problems in building and construction, problems in engineering management, problems in waste management, problems in mining, and problems in engineering pollution and gas flaring.”, he said.
Earlier in his welcome address, the Vice-chancellor, University of Ibadan, Professor Kayode Adebowale who presented award of Nigeria Society of Engineer to the guest speaker Engr Dr. Anthony Adeniji for the year 2023/2024 graduate induction, commended the Institution’s Faculty of Technology for a great feat, charged the new 269 UI engineering inductees to remain the good ambassadors of the Institution and Nigeria as a whole everywhere they find themselves through their well refined dispositions through character and learning.
The Induction had in attendance the Vice Chancellor of University of Ibadan, Prof K.O. Adebowale, Deputy Vice-chancellors Administration Prof. P.O Olapegba, Dean of Faculty of Technology Prof.A.I Bamgboye, Deans of Faculties, Heads of department, Emeritus Prof. E.B Lucas, Sub-Deans, lecturers, staff of Faculty of Technology, President Nigeria Society of Engineers, Engr. Margaret Aina Oguntala, Chairman Nigeria Society of Engineer Ibadan Engr I.F. Bello, and chapters chairman of different field of engineering, traditional leaders, parents among others.
