Ladoja Seeks Federal Government’s Intervention On Ibadan Ecological Challenges

IBADAN – THE Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, has appealed to the Federal Government to intervene in addressing persistent ecological challenges affecting parts of Ibadan.
The monarch made the appeal on Tuesday in Abuja during a visit to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume.
Speaking during the visit, Oba Ladoja acknowledged previous interventions by the Federal Government and the World Bank, particularly the Ogunpa channelisation project.
He, however, noted that while attention had been given to areas such as Mokola, Ekotedo, Ogunpa, Oke Ado and Molete, several other communities remained vulnerable.
According to the monarch, residents of Oranyan, Kudeti, Agbongbon and other low-income areas of the city continue to suffer severe flooding and related ecological challenges, especially during the rainy season.
He stressed that the plight of residents in these areas had not received adequate attention, despite the hardship they experience annually.
In his response, the SGF, Senator Akume, said he was not surprised by the Olubadan’s visit, describing it as a reflection of the monarch’s concern for the welfare of his people.
Akume assured that the Federal Government would do everything within its capacity to provide assistance toward resolving the ecological problems.
Oba Ladoja was accompanied on the visit by Senator Fatai Buhari, representing Oyo North Senatorial District, and Senator Sharafadeen Alli of Oyo South, among others.
