Makinde Charges Oyo Timber Association To Embrace Afforestation System

Oyo State government has called on the timber stakeholders to embrace continuous tree replacement for a healthy state.
Naijanewshub.com.ng reports that the call was made on Tuesday during a formal inauguration of the Oyo State Registered Timber Contractor and Sawmillers Association held at the Trans Amusement Park, Bodija,Ibadan.
The state governor, Seyi Makinde who was represented by the Director, Oyo State Forestry, Stephen Moradeyo noted that deforestation has increased climate change and risk due warming in the world.
Oyo State government has directed compulsory 10 to 20 hectares of tree replacement by every state’s forestry stakeholders including the wood collectors, wood loggers and plank sellers as to strengthen a healthy atmosphere and increase promotion of timber production in the country.
“We want to checkmate or mitigate against the climate effect that is globally going out right now. The government is appealing and compelling the stakeholders including the sawmillers, timber contractors, plank sellers , wood collectors, and all that have one thing or another with wood to set up 10 to 20 hectares of land in all our forest reserve with their appellation.”
“Sawmillers and timber contractors to embrace afforestation project as this will help us a lot to sustain our forest resources and likewise it will be able to checkmate the effect of climate change”, Folarin said.
In his reaction, Chairman, Oyo State Registered Timber Contractor and Sawmillers Association, Alhaji Chief Kabir Olayemi credited the administration Gov. Seyi Makinde over a laudable development in the agriculture sector of the state, assured association’s readiness towards complying with afforestation renewed system in the state.
“We are grateful to the state government for receiving the association with open hands, often beautiful co-operation enjoyed with the government through the state Forestry.”
“Concerning the directive of the state government, we are assuring the government of our association’s readiness to comply with tree replacement.”
“We are ready to train members and sensitize towards tree replanting. Iseyin has had tree planting zone, Ibadan tree zone with the government’s forest reserve. We will do this adequately, and by two or 6years’ time, we shall begin to have results”, Olayemi concluded.
Meanwhile, the state government presented a certificate of recognition to the association through the deputy director, Mr Ariori Kayode Folarin to the newly inaugurated state chairman and executive members.
Present at the event included former deputy chief of staff and 2023 PDP Oluyole House of Representatives candidate, Hon.Mojeed Mogbonjubola, Oyo Central Senator-Elect, Dr. Yunus Abidun Akintunde, zonal chairmen Executive members, Oyo State Registered Timber Contractors and Sawmillers Association and a popular broadcaster, Komolafe Olaiya.
