Bodija four storey building collapse has been linked with sub standard.
Naijanewshub.com.ng reports that the early morning four storey building collapse in Ibadan the Capital of Oyo state on Thursday has been linked to compromise of the required standards by the relevant building and disaster management agencies.
The uncompleted four storey hotel building at Awosika Bodija area of Ibadan metropolis suddenly went down around 5:45am leaving seven people with various degrees of injuries.
The incident according to an eyewitness, a neighbour of the collapse building who spoke with Naijanewshub.com.ng disclosed that the incident happened around 5.45 am when Muslim faithful were returning from early morning prayers.
The eyewitness also maintained that the rescue teams including people in the neighbourhood and passers-by have been able to rescue seven people who are currently receiving medical attention at the University College Hospital, Ibadan.
The eyewitness also confirmed that a combined team of the state Fire Service, Federal Road Safety Corps and other security agencies are currently on ground working hard to remove the debris in search of other survivors.
In their separate reactions, the Zonal Chairman of the National Emergency Management Agency, Mr. Saheed Akiode and the state coordinator of the Standard Organisation of Nigeria, Mr. Adetoyi Adeyinka said it was observed that the contractors handling the construction of the building compromised standards.
They said preventive measures would be put in place to forestall future occurrence.
Also in his reactions, the Police Public Relations Officer in Oyo State, SP. Adewale Osifeso confirmed the incident.
Osifeso stressed that the site had since been cordoned off with adequate deployment of Police personnel in the interest of public health and safety.
