Nigerian Navy Commissions Ultra Modern Boreholes In Ajayi Crowther’s Hometown Osoogun, Six Others To Foster Civil – Military Relationship

IBADAN – The ancestral hometown of the foremost and renowned cleric, Bishop Samuel Ajayi Crowther and six other communities in Iseyin town on Thursday benefited from the Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ikechukwu Ogalla’s Special Intervention Quick Impact Project Scheme, as Nigerian Navy commissioned 7-Unit of boreholes.
According to the facilitator of the Project, Rear Admiral Olushola Kolawole Oluwagbire said the project is aimed at fostering the civil-military relationship between the military and the civilians.
The donation of the seven units of boreholes to seven communities is in order to ease scarcity of water in the benefitted communities.
The beneficiary communities include Ayedun, Igboleya, Ilado, Ita Epo, Molete, Okeola and Osoogun.
Speaking during the commissioning of borehores, the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla said the project was another milestone in the Nigerian Navy Civil-Military cooperation initiatives.
Ogalla represented by the Chief of Naval Transportation, Rear Admiral, Monday Unuhiere, said Civil-Military cooperation encompasses activities like interaction between the military and Civil society towards accomplishment of tactical operational objectives.
He said the project under the Special Intervention Quick Impact scheme of the Nigerian Navy contribute to the development of Nigeria and accomplishment of the Federal Government Renewed Hope Agenda.

“Under this scheme, accomplished serving Navy Officer like the Chief of Logistics, Nigerian Navy, Rear Admiral Olushola Oluwagbire, noble son of Iseyin, were given opportunity to touch the grassroots through this quick impact project.
“The project is in addition to the Nigerian Navy in securing lives and securing our national heritage.” he said.
Ogalla said that the choice of providing portable water to the affected communities would impact lives and health of residents of the communities in no small ways.
The Chief of Naval Staff said that the beneficiaries would forever remembered the Nigerian Navy and the facilitator for the gesture.
He appealed to them to maintain the project for it to serve the desired purpose.
In his remarks, the facilitator of the project, Rear Admiral Olushola Oluwagbire, said that the commissioning marks a significant milestone in the partnership between the Navy and the people of Iseyin.
He said that the project was one of the initiatives of the Nigerian Navy in contributing to the development of communities across Nigeria in order to enhance national security and development.
Oluwagbire said that when the opportunity of the project presented itself he approached the Aseyin of Iseyin, Oba Sefiu Oyebola, who identified scarcity of water as the major problem confronting the people of the affected communities.
“Out of the seven beneficiary communities is a community called Igboleya, where cattle and the people of the community compete and drink from the same water.
“This borehole is the first industrial borehole in that community,” he said.
Oluwagbire further said that a visit to Osoogun, also one of the beneficiary communities and the birth place of Bishop Ajayi Crowder, the translator of Bible to Yoruba language, was so desolate with one borehole serving the whole community.
The facilitator thanked the Chief of Naval Staff for his leadership style and commitments to impactful projects that would be of maximum benefits to the people at the grassroots.
“This is a clear demonstration of the Nigerian Navy role at not only ensuring security of water but also the well-being of Nigerians.” he said.
He advised the beneficiary communities to take full ownership of the project for its sustainability.
The Aseyin of Iseyin, Oba Sefiu Oyebola and Rep. Oyedeji Oyeshina, House of Representatives member for Iseyin/ Itesiwaju/Kojola and Iwajowa Constituency appealed for judicious use of the boreholes.
They further called on those in position of authority to ensure they give back to their communities and emulate the facilitator.
