LAFIA   –   GOVERNOR Abdullahi Sule, of Nasarawa State who also double as the chairman of North Central Governors Forum on Monday expressed confidence that the region will contribute 1billion naira each every month to the 19 northern governors security fund in the ongoing fight against insecurity in the region.

Governor Sule, made the disclosure during an executive meeting held in Lafia, the state capital.

The Governor said that the fund will be used to purchase high-tech equipment for security agencies and engage youths to support security efforts in the region.

The governor during the executive meeting announced the suspension of mining activities for six months to enable the state address insecurity in the state.

Sule, Explained that the suspension of the mining activities in the state is to enable security agencies to combat the current insecurity situation in the state.

” One of such decisions is actually the suspension of mining activities. Now, that one is very confusing because a lot of people will say, Nasarawa State, the improved revenue that we have seen is from mining. So how come we suspend mining operations?. So, is it not you are just suspending the entire operation for six months.

“No, we are suspending all licences if the president agrees, and then there will be verification so that we can find authentic miners, rather than just having so many illegal miners all over the place.

” One, generating no revenue for any of the states. Secondly, creating insecurity for most of these states, because anywhere you have mining activity, a lot of bandits, kidnappers, find that place as heaven for them to go and stay,” the governor added.

The governor also announced that chief Ezekiel Gomos a former Secretary to the Plateau State Government has been appointed as Director General of the Northern states Governor’s Forum.

Sule said that the appointee will oversee the management of the security fund and coordinate the efforts of the northern governors in addressing the security challenges facing the region.

The governors further added that the forum have also allocated a piece of land in a strategic location in Kaduna for the construction of a secretariat for the forum, courtesy of the Kaduna State Government.

” This development is seen as a significant step towards enhancing security in the North and promoting regional cooperation in addressing the security challenges facing the country,” he said
