Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) has appointed the Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State, Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo to head the 7-man governorship primary election committee that would conduct the primary on Thursday.
Disclosing this in a statement in Akure, the Ondo State capital, on Wednesday, the party’s state Publicity Secretary, Kennedy Ikantu Peretei disclosed that 627 delegates would participate in the party’s primary.
The leadership of the party has settled for indirect mode of primary in which only the 627 delegates would decide who would fly the flag of the party in the forthcoming November 16, 2024 gubernatorial election in the state.
According to Peretei, seven governorship aspirants were cleared by the Senator Sam Egwu Screening Committee to participate in the primary election.
He explained that the 627 delegates were selected from the 18 local government areas of the state.
The statement reads in parts: “The Ondo State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governorship Primary Election, scheduled for Thursday, 25th April, 2024 will be conducted by a 7-man Primary Election Committee, headed by Bayelsa State Deputy Governor, His Excellency, Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo.”
“Seven aspirants were cleared by the Senator Sam Egwu Screening Committee to participate in the primary election.”
“The International Culture and Events Centre (The Dome), Akure is the venue for the exercise. A total of 627 Delegates from the 18 Local Government Areas of the State are expected to elect the standard bearer of the party for the November 16, 2024 Governorship” election.
Accreditation of Delegates will commence at 10:00am. All those who are not Delegates or have no business at the venue are advised to keep a reasonable distance from the arena.”
