Oyo Commissioner For Education, Prof Salihu Adelabu Monitors 2024/05 Schools’ Resumption

IBADAN – The Oyo State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Salihu Adelabu on Tuesday, embarked on monitoring of activities and inspection of schools, as pupils and students resumed for the second term of the 2024/2025 academic session across the state.
The Commissioner, who led other government officials on schools’ inspection, expressed satisfaction with the turn out of the teachers in the Schools visited.
Some schools visited include Jericho High Secondary School, Jericho Ibadan, IMG, Primary and Grammar School, Oje Igosun among others.
He noted that teachers in all schools monitored were actively on the ground and the teaching and learning had commenced.
The Commissioner frowned at the situation in Jericho High School, Eleyele, Ibadan where the Post Service Housing Scheme II Estate, Eleyele, blocked the entrance of the School, adding the blockage has prevented free flow of the movement of the Teachers and Students.
The Commissioner said, : the situation of the Schools is very okay. You know, before today, we had a pre-resumption meeting with all the principals, and they are living up to the expectations.
“Few schools that we have gone round, have started classes almost immediately and the attendance is not that poor. And I sincerely want to thank all the teachers because the teachers’ attendance today is over 90 percent by my observations. It is very okay with us.
“We had a big issue with one of our secondary schools in the state, (Jericho High School, Eleyele, Ibadan) which I realized the entrance to this school was blocked as a result of land issues. So we are trying to move for an alternative switch. But I think very soon, temporarily, they were trying to put up a temporary measure but the ministry is thinking about the permanent solution to the problem.
Alright, so as the new academic session began, I still want to encourage the parents although, we are in a hard situation in the country now. But I still would like to encourage them to at least keep pushing for the education of their children.
“You know, when the going gets tough, the tough gets going. They should never allow a situation where their children or their ward will drop out of the school. To my amiable teachers and students, I still would like to encourage them to keep doing what they know to do best.
“They should make sure they give the best content teaching to the students and to the students, they should have the mindset of always wanting to learn.
