Oyo Government Initiates Re-verification Process For Landowners Affected By Ibadan Circular Road Project

IBADAN – The Oyo State Government has officially commenced a re-verification exercise for landowners and claimants impacted by the acquisition of lands along Segment One of Senator Rashidi Ladoja Circular Road.
The re-verification exercise which was held on Sunday at the Islamic High School, Orita Basorun, Ibadan, was aimed at addressing the concerns of those affected and facilitate the payment of compensation.
The Chairman of the Monitoring Team overseeing the compensation payments, retired Commissioner of Police Sunday Odukoya, addressed the landowners and claimants from the Alago to Ajota area.
He emphasized, “This exercise is a significant step towards alleviating the burdens faced by our people. We are committed to ensuring that you receive the compensation you rightly deserve.”
Odukoya urged the affected individuals to seize the opportunity provided by the state government, adding that: “It is crucial that you cooperate with our team and remain honest throughout this process.
“Similarly in his remark, the Commissioner for Culture and Tourism and a member of the monitoring team, Wasiu Olatunbosun, assured the affected people that the re-verification process is entirely free of charge and cautioned against engaging intermediaries.
“We want to ensure that everyone receives their rightful compensation without incurring unnecessary costs,” he stated.
In interviews with reporters, several landowners and claimants expressed gratitude for the verification process.
They noted that the methodology was clear and organised, instilling hope that their efforts would yield positive results.
“We appreciate the thoroughness of the verification and are optimistic that our claims will be honoured,” one Mr. Gbenga Adediran.
The re-verification exercise is set to cover approximately 3,000 landowners and claimants in the affected areas and is scheduled to conclude on Saturday, December 22, 2024.
Governor Seyi Makinde has previously directed the monitoring team to ensure that every affected person with legitimate documentation receives the necessary assistance to alleviate their pain and hardship.
