ABUJA – AFROBEATS star Damini Ogulu, popularly known as Burna Boy, has cancelled two scheduled shows on his “No Sign of Weakness” tour in the United States, as controversy continues to trail the Grammy-winning singer following backlash over a viral on-stage incident.
The cancellations affect a performance that was slated for The Armory in Minneapolis and another scheduled for December 1, 2025, in Chicago.
The Minneapolis concert was called off less than 24 hours before the event, according to information displayed on Ticketmaster.
Tour organisers have yet to give an official explanation for the decision, but the move comes amid growing public criticism directed at the artiste.
The backlash followed an incident at Burna Boy’s Colorado concert earlier this week, where a video went viral showing him directing security personnel to remove a couple seated in the front row after they appeared to have fallen asleep during his performance.
The pair were escorted out, drawing mixed reactions from the audience, including both boos and cheers.
The controversy intensified after Burna Boy addressed the incident during an Instagram Live session, insisting he only wanted “supporters who buy my tickets.”
The remark drew further criticism online from fans and commentators.
Public sympathy later grew after reports emerged that the woman involved in the incident was grieving a recent personal loss, which added emotional weight to the debate surrounding the singer’s actions.
In the early hours of Saturday, Burna Boy confirmed the cancellations via his Instagram Story, sharing a direct link to the ticketing platform that showed both the Minneapolis and Chicago dates as “cancelled.” All other tour dates under the No Sign of Weakness tour remain unaffected.
Neither Burna Boy nor his management team has issued an official statement clarifying whether the backlash directly contributed to the decision to cancel the shows.
