Oyo State Governor, Engr Seyi Makinde has on Thursday at the Car Park Axis of Government Secretariat Agodi Ibadan, presented 28 brand new eighteen-seater buses to student union bodies of tertiary institutions in the state for effective running of student union activities.

This initiative comes as a fulfillment of Governor Makinde’s promise made during the campaign period to provide buses for students.

Governor Makinde in his address also promised to renew Omituntun Bursary Scheme for students across all the geo political zones of the state.

Governor Makinde assured the students that all necessary technical procedures have been put in place to ensure a smooth and hitch-free process of the bursary scheme.

Emphasizing the importance of accessibility, Governor Makinde stated that “the scholarship and bursary application process will be conducted online, making it easily accessible to all qualified students in the state.”

“Omituntun Bursary Scheme will be launched in the coming weeks, this is to show our administration’s commitment towards supporting students’ educational pursuits.”

Governor Makinde however urged individuals to play their part in assisting the government towards achieving the  overall development and success of the state’s educational sector.

In his remarks, the Senior Special Assistant to Governor Makinde on Student Affairs, Hon Victor Olojede lauded Governor Makinde for presenting the brand new buses to student union bodies across the state.

He noted that the development is a remarkable achievement, describing it as unprecedented in the history of Nigeria.

He emphasized that no governor has ever undertaken such a massive gesture of donating 28 buses to tertiary institutions and student bodies simultaneously.

Olojede also appealed to the governor to address other pressing issues affecting students, such as bursary payments, urging prompt attention to ensure the welfare and academic success of students across the state. He expressed gratitude to Governor Makinde for his prompt payment of bursary to law students in the state, setting a precedent for good governance and student support.

The presentation ceremony took place at the Oyo State Government Secretariat in Agodi, Ibadan, and was attended by dignitaries including the Deputy Governor, Barr. Bayo Lawal; the Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Debo Ogundoyin; the Deputy Chief of Staff, Hon. Fola Oyekunle; the Secretary to the State Government, and other government functionaries.

Also present were the Commissioner for Information, Prince Dotun Oyelade, Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Hon. Wasilat Adegoke, Commissioner for Lands, Survey and Urban Development.
