Nigerian Army Organizes Strategic Workshop For Commanding Officers To Address Modern Security Threats

The Nigerian Army under the leadership of the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Olufemi Olatubosun Oluyede, has declared open a five-day workshop for Commanding Officers in the country on the need to combat the new trends in security challenges and the need to address it with a modern security skills especially in a joint operational environment.
While declaring open the ‘First Commanding Officers’ Workshop 2025′ the Chief of Army Staff at the conference room of 2 Division Nigerian Army Headquarters, Adekunle Fajuyi Cantonment Odogbo Barrack, Ojoo, Ibadan, the Capital City of Oyo State on Tuesday, charged the participants of the workshop on professionalism.
Speaking on the importance of the theme of the workshop, titled: “Enhancing Tactical Level Command and Leadership Within A Joint Environment”, Lt. General Oluyede noted that the workshop is not only well timing but also critical in today’s dynamic landscape.
The Chief of Army Staff in his address maintained that the Commanding Officers hold a significance responsibility in ensuring operational effectiveness, stressing that theme of the workshop underscore the importance of adapting to the complex and inter connecting nature of modern security challenges.
The Chief of Army Staff who was represented by the Commander Nigerian Army Training and Doctrine Command, Major General K. O Aligbe stated that the objectives of the workshop is to enhance the operational efficiency, administrative competence and leadership skills of tactical level.
The Chief Of Army Staff, who is the Guest of Honour at the workshop in his address said, “I am pleased to see these dedicated and capable Commanders who have gathered here today to further their professional developments and enhance their abilities to confront the contemporaries security challenges that face our great nation.
“The theme of this workshop “Enhancing Tactical Level Command and Leadership Within A Joint Environment”, is not only timing but also critical in today’s dynamic landscape, as a Commanding Officers you hold a significance responsibility in ensuring operational effectiveness and this theme underscore the importance of adapting to the complex and inter connecting nature of modern security challenges.
“The objectives set for this workshop is to enhance the operational efficiency, administrative competence, and leadership skills of tactical level of commanders by equipping them with knowledge to manage events and equipments in a joint and multi-agency environment. This is also geared to sensitizing on the ongoing transformation efforts and preparing them to meet contemporaries security challenges.
“I am confident that through the presentations, discussions and problems solving sessions, you will be equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary to lead an effectively in a joint and multi-agency environment. This objectives are therefore re-emphasizing my Command’s philosophy which is to “Consolidate a transformation Nigerian Army towards bequeathing a well motivated and combat ready force that can effectively discharge his constitutional responsibilities within a joint and multi-agencies environment.”
“Consequently, the lectures that have been prepared will be informative and thought provoking, the touch of modern aspect of modern military leadership and operational readiness, in digital transformation, managing emerging threats, and ensuring the security and serviceable of our equipments.
“Furthermore the syndicate problem solving method and opportunities for collaborations align you to apply the knowledge gained and shared experiences to find innovative solutions to the challenges you face.
“I urge you to be actively engaged in all the activities planned for this workshop, together we will continue to ensure the safety and security of our nation.” COAS said.
Earlier in his welcome address, the 2 Division Nigerian Army Headquarters General Officer Commanding (GOC), Major General Obinna Onubogu, stated that today’s complex and rapid evolving security environment need a well-trained commanders.
He maintained that Nigeria Army over the last six months has made some gains in an overall operations, noting that there were bit of tactical reversals.
He said, “Today’s complex and rapid evolving security environment, the need for a well-trained, adaptable and decisive commanders cannot be overemphasized, the theme of the workshop which is “Enhancing Tactical Level Command and Leadership within Joint Environment” could not have come at a better time when a lot operational and administrative gaps have been observed at the tactical levels of Command.
“Over the last 6 months the Nigerian Army has made some gains in our overall operations but we must also accept that we have witnessed quite a bit of tactical reversals. It is in this light that this workshop was carefully conceived by Army Headquarters to give Commanders and other participants the requisite training required to bolster their relationship and command style for improved operational and administrative efficiency across all the theater of operation.
“The workshop should be seen as a significant milestone in our collective resolve to strengthen the operational efficiency of tactical -level commanders. At the end of the workshop, it is expected that all participants would have been empowered with the right skill and knowledge necessary to lead confidently and effectively in the field. All I ask of all participants is that you open yourself to learn something new from the workshop.
