Olowu of Kuta Named Ambassador Of
2025 World Headdress Celebration

IBADAN – The Olowu of Kuta, Ọba Adekunle Makama Oyelude, has been named the Ambassador and Grand Patron of the 2025 Edition of the proposed Annual World Headdress Celebration, a global cultural event seeking UNESCO recognition.
The announcement was made on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, during a courtesy visit by the leadership of Ọmọ Yorùbá Àtàtà Socio-cultural Initiative (ỌYÀSI) to his palace in Kuta, Osun State.
The group’s Chairman, Ọlawale Ajao, informed the monarch of the decision, citing the Olowu’s unwavering support for Yoruba culture and tradition.
In his response, Ọba Oyelude said “I’m honoured to be chosen. Though the programme is based in Oyo State, I’m not one to do things halfway. We must take this advocacy to Osun, Oyo, and other Yoruba states. I support the idea fully.”
He further proposed that the event should rotate among Yoruba-speaking states in future editions.
“Ibadan is a strategic host city in Southern Nigeria, but we can make the celebration rotational,” he added.
“What matters is drawing global attention to our heritage,” he concluded.
The visit by ỌYÀSI marks a significant endorsement of its cultural revival efforts and signals royal backing for the upcoming World Headdress Celebration, a growing global platform for the preservation and celebration of African identity through dress and symbolism.
