Police Arrest Suspect Over Destiny Boy’s Death

ABEOKUTA – THE Ogun State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of one suspect in connection with the death of popular Nigerian singer Adesina Afeez, widely known as Destiny Boy.
The Command disclosed that the matter has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Homicide Section, for comprehensive investigation.
This was contained in a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, on Monday.
The PPRO said the Command had commenced a formal probe into the circumstances surrounding the death of the 22-year-old artiste.
“The Ogun State Police Command has initiated investigations into the death of Adesina Afeez, aged 22 years, popularly known as Destiny Boy,” the statement read.
“The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Homicide Section, for detailed investigation. One suspect is currently in custody while investigations are ongoing.”
News of Destiny Boy’s death broke on Sunday following the circulation of distressing videos on social media showing his lifeless body being conveyed to a mortuary.
The videos triggered widespread grief among fans and the public, as well as speculation over the cause of his death.
In one of the videos, the deceased singer was seen lying at the back of a vehicle, with cotton wool placed in his nostrils and ears.
Amid growing public speculation, an unidentified associate of the artiste later released a separate video in an attempt to clarify the circumstances surrounding his death.
The associate stated that Destiny Boy had been battling a private health challenge prior to his passing.
“God, I want to do this video before people start saying rubbish about Destiny Boy’s cause of death,” the man said.
“We all came to this life to write our own history. May God rest his soul. Destiny was nursing a health issue before he died. We tried our best to help him, but he didn’t make it.”
Meanwhile, the Police have assured the public that investigations are ongoing and that further details will be made available as the case progresses.
