Police Probe Discovery Of Corpse atAt National Assembly Annex Gate

ABUJA – THE Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has launched an investigation following the discovery of a decomposing body inside a vehicle at the National Assembly annex gate in Abuja.
The corpse, identified as 55-year-old Gaddafi Iwar, a Tiv labourer working at a construction site within the Assembly complex, was found on Sunday morning in a red Peugeot 406 with registration number BWR-577 BF.
Security personnel reportedly made the grim discovery around 9:00 a.m., prompting immediate efforts to move the remains.
The body was first taken to the National Assembly Clinic and later transferred to Asokoro General Hospital, where medical staff declined to admit it due to its advanced state of decomposition.
Community leaders from the Tiv ethnic group, alongside youth representatives, subsequently facilitated the burial of the deceased at Gbawu Village, a community between the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) and Kuje Area Council, citing public health concerns.
Confirming the incident, the FCT Commissioner of Police directed a discreet probe to unravel the circumstances of Iwar’s death, how long the body had remained in the car, and possible lapses that allowed such an incident to occur within one of the nation’s most secured precincts.
The development has sparked questions about surveillance and security management at the National Assembly complex.
