Process To Fill Vacant Awujale Stool Recommences

ABEOKUTA – THE process to fill of the vacant stool of the Awujale and Paramount Ruler of Ijebuland has recommenced following the approval of Ijebu-Ode local government.
This was sequel to the clearance from the Ogun State Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs.
This was contained in an official letter dated January 6, 2026, and signed by the Secretary to the Local Government, Oke Abiodun Adebanjo, a copy of which was obtained by Independent on Wednesday.
The local government conveyed the approval authorizing the Fusengbuwa Ruling House to begin its internal selection process in line with the customary laws of Ijebuland and existing chieftaincy regulations in Ogun State.
The ruling house was directed to formally notify the local government of the date, time, and venue of its nomination exercise within 14 days of receiving the notice.
The letter stated that representatives of the local government would attend the exercise strictly as observers to ensure proper administrative documentation.
It was emphasized that the approval is intended to facilitate due process and does not prejudice the traditional rights or internal procedures of the Fusengbuwa Ruling House.
The approval represents a recommencement of the process, as a similar notice had earlier been issued but was subsequently withdrawn following the intervention of the Ogun State Government.
The Awujale stool became vacant following the demise of the late monarch, Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona who died in July 2025.
Meanwhile, the ruling house in another letter dated the same day and was obtained by Independent, has scheduled the nomination meeting for Monday, 12th January, 2026.
The notice of the meeting was signed by the Chairman and Head of the Ruling House, Otunba Abdul Lateef Owoyemi.
