Rivers Assembly Launches Impeachment Proceedings Against Gov. Fubara

PORT HARCOURT — POLITICAL tension escalated in Rivers State on Thursday as the State House of Assembly formally commenced impeachment proceedings against Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, Ngozi Odu.

At a plenary session presided over by Speaker Martins Amaewhule, the Majority Leader, Major Jack, read a notice of allegations citing gross misconduct against Governor Fubara.

The notice, endorsed by 26 lawmakers, accused the governor of actions allegedly in breach of the Nigerian Constitution.

Speaker Amaewhule announced that the impeachment notice would be served on the governor within seven days, in line with constitutional requirements.

In a related development, the Deputy Majority Leader, Linda Stewart, also read a separate notice detailing allegations of gross misconduct against Deputy Governor Ngozi Odu during the same sitting.

The move marks a fresh turn in the state’s deepening political crisis.
