A State High Court sitting in Port Harcourt on Tuesday granted bail to the the king of Igbu Akoh Kingdom, His Majesty, Eze Cassidy Ikegbidi, as well as His Royal Majesty, Eze Ngozi Onugwo, the Eze Ekpeye Logbo and five others on health grounds.

The trial judge, Justice Sika Henry Aprioku in his ruling pegged the bail sum of the monarchs at N10m, while ordering that they provide one surety in like sum, a public servant at the level of Permanent Secretary in the Civil Service or any Government recognised Traditional ruler from the Ahoada East Local Government Area.

The Judge also granted bail in the sum of N5m

to the other defendants in the matter, adding that they provide a grade level 16 civil servant as surety.

Justice Aprioku who further ordered the all defendants deposit their travel documents such as international passports to the court, adjourned to the matter till December 8 and 13, 2023 for trial.

 

Earlier, the defendants all pleaded not guilty to the charges against them.

 

Recall that the defendants are facing several charges bordering on murder, conspiracy to commit murder, cultism, kidnapping among others after they were arrested by the Police in connection with the killing of SP Bako Angbashim, the former Ahoada East DPO.

Angbashim was killed and slaughtered in Odiemudie community by a notorious cult group led by one David Gift aka 2baba and his gang in September 2023.
