SSANU Warns FG Against Divide-and-Rule Tactics In University System

LOKOJA – THE Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) has warned Federal Government not to employ divide-and-rule tactics, in the ongoing negotiation with Unions in tertiary institutions.
SSANU National President, Comrade Mohammed Ibrahim, expressed disappointment at the recent unveiling of the 2025 Federal Government-ASUU Agreement, calling it a “half-measure” that would create more tensions.
Ibrahim lamented that the government has historically paid lip service to university workers’ welfare, emphasizing that they deserve better remuneration, comparable to security agencies, to produce quality graduates.
He urged the government to prioritize workers’ welfare, improve hostels and clinic facilities and fast-track negotiations with SSANU.
The SSANU president also criticized the government’s handling of the Abuja-Lokoja Federal Highway, which has been under construction for over two decades, commended Prof. Olayemi Akinwumi’s leadership at Federal University Lokoja.
