Notable Nigerians have been expressing their views about the students loan bill that was recently approved by both the legislatives and the executive arms of the government under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
While sharing his personal view with journalists, the General Overseer of the Foursquare Gospel Church In Nigeria, who is a visitor at the McPherson University, situated at Seriki Sotayo, Ogun state, Reverend Sam Aboyeji expressed his satisfaction over the development.
Speaking with journalists during the official commissioning of a multimillion naira hostel project for students of the university, Reverend Sam Aboyeji stressed that students loan is not a new thing in other parts of the world.
The clergyman in his words said, “All over the world the students loan is a common things, I just heard that one of the US President just finished paying his student loans, so it’s a common practice in other countries.”
“Students loan is a leveler because there are people who have the brain but don’t have the opportunity, there are some people that are from the poor background that are gifted intellectually, so how we they be able to make it to have the same opportunity with the children of the those who have, so student loans is a way of providing equal opportunities for all, either you’re from a rich background or a poor background.”
“This is a welcome development and I hope we move fast about it.” Reverend Sam said.
Earlier in his welcome address, the Vice- chancellor of the University, Professor Francis Adegbaye Igbasan expressed his gratitude to the visitor to the university, Reverend Sam Aboyeji for his support since he came on board as the vice chancellor of the institution.
Prof. Francis Igbasan said, “The building we are commissioning today is bequeathed to McPherson University by the Foursquare Ministers’ Welfare Scheme. This is the fourth building we are commissioning in 14 months. It is a storey building with 56 rooms. It will house over 224 female students conveniently and the Management has decided this will be a standard replica of what our halls of residences would be henceforth. This can only be God and to Him alone shall be all the glory.”
“The Foursquare Ministers’ Welfare Scheme [FMWS] initiated and wholly financed this project which was completed to standard within the stipulated period. This is unprecedented and very applaudable! Please help me appreciate all leadership and members of the FMWS for the great idea, which is today, a reality, I want to thank our ministers very specially for these facilities bequeathed to McPherson University based on trust and respect.”
“I am optimistic that today’s event, will inspire and motivate other groups within the Foursquare movement to partner with the University in the construction of additional Halls of residence. Groups like the Foursquare Women International (FWI), alumni of our great University-McPherson University, amongst others. With the support of all and sundry, we would build this institution to become a point of reference amongst the Faith-based Universities in Africa. My mission for this University has and will remain one and the same and the management will not rest until our dear institution, McPherson University, sits in the pedestal of prestigious universities in Nigeria.” Igbasan said.
In his own remarks, the chairman of the Foursquare Ministers Welfare Scheme (FMWS), Rev Ajibola Jolaosho said that the hostel project for the university began with a vision cast by Daddy GO Reverend Sam Aboyeji on an inspiration to create a synergy in the operation of the church and all its parastatals and ventures such that the resources of the organization are deployed to give multiple benefits to the church as our various units, departments and institutions trade among or with one another.”
“It is with this mindset that the Chairman, BOT McPherson University, Rev. Kunle Allen approached the FMWS with a proposal inviting the scheme to come invest in building a hostel with a view to help solve the problem of accommodation for students now that the door of enrolment of students has opened.”
