The Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun has confirmed the adoption of modern strategies of combating crime.
Egbetokun while delivering a speech tagged “The Nigeria Police Force and the Management of internal security at the first distinguished personality lecture of the TETFUND Center of Excellence in Multidisciplinary Studies, held at Trenchard Hall, University of Ibadan on Monday noted that Nigerian Police has adopted a modern police which is community based, technological driven and human oriented police for effective services.
He maintained that all the ungoverned places will soon be govern by the police to ensure adequate safety of all and sundry across the country.
He said, “we are working on technology that will make it easier for us to seeing where the crimes are committed, we want to be seeing where the criminals are committing the crimes right from our offices, so we can follow them, get them arrested.”
“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved our yearly intake of 10,000 to 30,000 yearly to address the issue of shortage of personnel, very soon we shall commence the recruitment process of the 30,000 personnel as approved by Mr President.” IGP said.
While highlighting challenges facing the Police Force in the country, Egbetokun said, “Nigeria Police Force often operates with limited resources, including manpower, equipment, funding, this can hinder their ability to respond effectively to crisis, especially when faced with large-scale emergencies.”
The IGP also called parents to ensure proper parenting of their wards against the ground gaining insecurity.
While identifying factors to insecurity in the country, Egbetokun confirmed that ethno-religious divide, insurgency, corruption, among others as factors contributing a lot to insecurity in the country.
He noted that it is very important that parents train their wards towards positive growth and development of the country.
He said his leadership has mechanized terrorism counter unit, local complaints’ unit, cybercrime units and drone monitoring units for more security of lives and properties, insisting that the Police has successfully mechanized drone monitoring units as to fully open the deadly forests for use of all, while the seeking more collaborativeness with other security agencies for more efficiencies.
Earlier in his remark, the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, Prof. Olukayode Adebowale described the IGP, Egbetokun who holds local and foreign certifications in security and peace studies described him exemplary, exceptional officer of police, called him to put more efforts in security lives and properties across the states of the federation.
