2027: I’ll Ensure Local Government Autonomy As Governor — Senator Alli Declares For Oyo Guber

IBADAN — A senator representing Oyo South Senatorial District, Sarafadeen Alli, has formally declared his intention to contest the 2027 governorship election in Oyo State, pledging to prioritise local government autonomy as a key pillar of his administration.
Alli made the declaration on Friday while addressing supporters, stating that his decision to enter the race was driven by a sense of duty rather than personal ambition.
According to him, the call to serve the people of Oyo State outweighs any desire for political office.
“I will ensure local government autonomy when I become governor,” he said, stressing that meaningful grassroots development cannot be achieved without empowering local councils to operate independently and efficiently.
The lawmaker acknowledged that while he is not perfect, his record in public service demonstrates accountability and a commitment to results.
He described Oyo State as a land of rich history and cultural significance, often regarded as a cradle of civilisation, adding that its people deserve leadership capable of translating potential into tangible progress.
Referencing past administrations, including that of former governor Abiola Ajimobi, Alli noted that the state has recorded notable strides but insisted that more can be achieved through purposeful governance.
He expressed concern over the state of education, calling for a repositioning of schools to become centres of innovation and growth rather than institutions that limit aspirations.
On security, the senator described safety as the foundation for development, noting that economic and social progress cannot thrive in an unsafe environment.
Addressing healthcare, Alli maintained that access to quality medical services should be a fundamental right for all citizens, not a privilege for a select few.
He pledged to implement policies that would expand healthcare access across both urban and rural communities.
He also identified artisans and small business owners as the backbone of the state’s economy, promising targeted initiatives to support their growth and improve livelihoods.
In addition, Alli committed to building a modern and efficient civil service grounded in professionalism and transparency.
He assured pensioners that their welfare would remain a priority, with their dignity safeguarded at all times.
Describing his governorship ambition as a collective mission, Alli called on residents to join him in shaping a more inclusive and prosperous future for the state.
“This journey is not mine alone but ours. I will lead with integrity so that the people can trust their government, and I will remain accessible to all,” he said.
