•••As 2 Div GOC, Major General Bamidele Alabi Charges Troops On Discipline, Loyalty  

Nigerians have been assured of highly professional discharge of duties from the officers of the Nigerian Army towards their efforts in achieving success in the ongoing military operations against insecurity challenges currently battling some parts of the country.

There is no doubt that the Nigerian Army through various operations across the country is doing exceedingly well in curtailment of insecurity challenges ranging from banditry attacks, kidnapping for ransom, insurgency among others in some parts of the country, especially in the Northeast, Northwest, Northcentral and recently in the southeast.

Addressing troops and other notable dignitaries at the Major General JM Inienger Sport Complex of the 2 Division Nigerian Army Headquarters, Adekunle Fajuyi Cantonment, Odogbo Barracks Oojo, Ibadan, the Capital City of Oyo state, over the weekend during the West Africa Social Activities 2023 (WASA 2023), the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of 2 Division, Major General Bamidele Alabi commended the troops for all their efforts at sustaining peace and security within the Division’s Area of Responsibility (AOR).

Major General Bamidele Alabi also urged the troops of the 2 Division to continue to be hardworking, while maintaining high standard of discipline and remain loyal to the President and Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

The GOC in his address charged the troops to remain resolute and highly committed towards achieving the Command Philosophy with emphasis on sound administration, effective leadership and operational effectiveness.

Major General Alabi said, “WASA is an annual event that affords soldiers and their families to interact with their host communities as a way of marking the end of the year’s activities. This activities which was inherited from the colonial era after World War II has been entrenched as a major social event that is held annually by the Nigerian Army.”

“WASA provides an opportunity for the personnel to celebrate their culture heritage in a conducive atmosphere and to foster espirit de corps. The Chief Of Army Staff (COAS) Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja in an effort to convey his philosophy which is “To Transform the Nigerian Army  into a Well-Trained, Equipped and Highly Motivated Force towards Achieving our Constitutional Responsibilities within a Joint Environment” to troops of the Nigeria Army has continued to promote the sustenance of WASA as an annual event. It is in this light today that we are witnessing yet another WASA event, as a hallmark for maintaining our culture and tradition.”

“The various formations and units of 2 Division within Adekunle Fajuyi Cantonment are today prepared to treat our guests to exotic cultural dances, displays and exquisite cuisines. These activities would be culminated with the beating of the retreat to mark the end of the occasion. Let me use this opportunity to commend troops of 2 Division Nigerian Army for all their good efforts at sustaining peace and security within the Division’s Area of Responsibility (AOR).The troops of the Division also successfully participated in all the Nigerian Army activities for Year 2023 and contributed immensely to all ongoing operations towards ensuring peace and security in our dear country, especially in the Northeast, Northwest and North Central theatres, as well as missions outside the country.”

“I urge all the troops of 2 Division to continue to be hardworking, maintain high standard of discipline and remain loyal to the President and Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. We must also remain resolute and highly committed towards achieving the Command Philosophy with emphasis on sound administration, effective leadership and operational effectiveness. It is also imperative on us to respect constitutional authority and be proactive in responding to security challenges and dealing with threats to peace and security of our dear country, in cooperation with other security agencies, especially within 2 Div AOR.” Alabi said.

Major General Bamidele Alabi however used the occasion to appreciate the state governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde who was ably represented at the event by his Special Adviser on Security Matters, CP Fatai Owoseni (rtd.), The Chief Of Army Staff, the Nigerian Army Association among others for their supports.

In his remarks that was delivered by Fatai Owoseni, the state governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, who was the special guest of honour of the event, promised continued support for Nigerian Army 2 Division Headquarters and other security agencies to ensure sustainable peaceful coexistence among residents of the state.

He said, “The state appreciate the Nigerian Army for everything they have been doing towards ensuring safer and secured Oyo state, the state appreciate the Nigerian Army for everything and most especially with the recent incident of explosion that was recorded in Ibadan.”

“As we start the new year, the state looks forward to strengthen the collaboration with Nigerian Army and other security agencies to tackle the evolving security challenges which the dynamic of the society will bring forth.”

“Please be assure that His Excellency shall be adequately briefed regarding the enormous resources that have been committed to putting this thanksgiving ceremony, the WASA 2023 together and of course the governor has also asked me to let the GOC knows that when he returns he will do the needful, and security being one of the cardinal programs of our state and the driver of socio and economic growth, the state shall continue to provide the wherewithal for our troops and other services to deliver on their mandates.” He said.

Other highlights of the event includes cultural displays by various cultural dancers, tug of war contests, dancing competition among the baracks kids, checking of the cuisine of the various units of the Division by the GOC and other dignitaries invited, group photograph among others.
