Igbo Residents In Oyo Back Makinde, Slam Fayose Over Alleged Destabilisation Plot

IBADAN — THE Association of Igbo Residents in Oyo State has declared its support for Governor Seyi Makinde, while accusing former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, of making statements capable of destabilising the state.
Speaking at a press conference held on Saturday in Ibadan, the group, through its spokesperson, Barrister Ndo Ofurunna, expressed concern over what it described as “provocative political interference” in Oyo State affairs.
The association warned that such actions could threaten the relative peace currently enjoyed in the state.
“We have watched with concern the recent comments and activities allegedly linked to former Ayo Fayose, which appear designed to create unnecessary tension in Oyo State and distract the present administration from its developmental agenda,” the group said.
“It is deeply unfortunate that an individual with no constitutional responsibility in Oyo State has chosen to interfere in matters that do not concern him, while attempting to import political quarrels into our peaceful environment.”
The group further alleged that Fayose was working with other political actors, including Nyesom Wike, to undermine the Makinde administration, particularly through controversies surrounding the Olubadan traditional institution.
Describing the Olubadan stool as sacred, the association cautioned against politicising traditional structures.
“The Olubadan institution is central to the identity of Ibadanland and must not be dragged into partisan politics or used for selfish ambitions,” the statement read.
The group also dismissed alleged claims of an impeachment plot against Governor Makinde, describing them as baseless and politically motivated distractions.
According to the association, Makinde’s administration has continued to demonstrate purposeful leadership, inclusiveness, and commitment to development across key sectors in the state.
It added that Oyo State has experienced relative peace, religious harmony, and ethnic inclusion under the current government.
While calling on residents to remain calm and focused, the group urged political actors to refrain from inflammatory statements capable of heightening tensions.
It also appealed to leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to caution members whose comments could deepen internal divisions and weaken the party ahead of future political engagements.
Reaffirming its stance, the association pledged continued support for Governor Makinde, emphasising its commitment to peace, unity, and progress in Oyo State.
“Oyo State belongs to its people, and no amount of political mischief will derail the journey toward greater prosperity,” the group stated.
