Edo/Ondo 2024: Over 4.6 Million Voters Registered For Upcoming Guber Polls – INEC••• Releases Final Voter Register

ABUJA – The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced on Tuesday, August 6, the final figures for registered voters in Edo and Ondo States, ahead of the governorship elections scheduled for September 21 and November 11, respectively. According to the released data, Edo State has 2,629,025 registered voters, while Ondo State has 2,053,061 registered voters.
In a statement by National Commissioner for Information and Voter Education, Sam Olumekun, announced that students constitute 868,764 of the registered voters in Edo State and 694,938 in Ondo State.
He stated that a detailed breakdown of the figures by local government areas has been uploaded on the Commission’s website. Additionally, the Commission will announce the date for the collection of permanent voter cards in the coming days.
The statement reads: “The Commission convened on Tuesday, August 6, 2024, and approved the final register of voters for the upcoming Edo and Ondo Governorship elections. This register includes new voters from the recent Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) and successful transfer applicants from other states.
Edo now has a total of 2,629,025 registered voters. Of this number, 1,370,061 (52.11%) are male, while 1,258,964 (47.89%) are female. Youths aged 18 to 35 account for 983,133 (37.4%), followed by 914,806 individuals aged 36 to 49. Combined, these groups represent 1,897,939 (72.2%) of the registered voters in the state.
“In terms of occupation, 868,764 students make up the largest group of voters, constituting 33.05% of the electorate. Persons with Disability (PWDs) account for 4,199 voters, or 0.16%.
“The new voter register reflects a 4.9% increase from the 2023 General Election, raising the total number of registered voters to 2,501,081.
“Ondo State now has 2,053,061 registered voters. Among them, 1,034,006 (50.36%) are male and 1,034,964 (47.89%) are female. Youths aged 18 to 35 comprise 726,944 (35.41%) of the voters, while middle-aged individuals aged 36 to 49 make up 721,982 (35.17%). Combined, these two age groups represent 1,448,926y voters, or 70.57% of the electorate in the state.
“In few coming days, the Commission will announce the schedule for the collection of Permanent Voters’ Cards (PVCs) in the two states. This will include all categories of voters: new registrants from the recent Continuous Voter Registration (CVR), those who applied for transfers or replacements, and individuals with uncollected cards from previous registrations.”
